Secrets of Belize by Ilka P. Jacobs

We are a land of many wonders, cultures, colors and people. Imagine being the only Central American country that speaks English. Not only are we surrounded by Latin countries, but also belong to the Caribbean, that means of course, we speak ‘Kriol’. So it’s all true, we have the best of both worlds! Our serene Caribbean waters boast home to the world’s second largest coral reef. People around the world take their time planning themselves a vacation of a lifetime. No wonder we are a top tourist destination. This little jewel is known as the country of Belize.

With a population of only 356,600, our Belizean people are welcoming with hospitality worth to last memories. The combination of our vivid ethnic groups: Creole, Garifuna, Maya and Mestizo people is just the perfect cultural twist of history, tradition and cultural norms. This little country is so small; you can embrace yourself with nature as you drive from North to South in less than a full day. Now that’s definitely something to think about!
But please, don’t get me wrong! Belize is not all bout the natural resources and tourist attractions. Our Belizean hearts hold years of struggle for victory. Having been a British Colony, we are only 32 years old! Did you know that before any sort of colonization, the Mayans inhabited this beautiful land? That’s right! Do you remember the end of the world on December 21st, 2012 predications? Do you remember all the Maya Ruins and calendar associations? Well ladies and gentlemen, that’s all in Belize as well. Next time you hear about Belize, it’s safe to say you know all about it!
All in all, we are land of diverse beauty, a melting pot of cultures, and proof of beautiful and dynamic living history. That goes to make me, a proud Belizean!
