CHELSEA FC hosted HULL CITY on Sunday the 18th of August at Stamford bridge and won their first 2013 premier league game of the season. Thanks to two first half goals by Oscar and Frank Lampard.
It was the first competitive game Chelsea played under Jose Mourinho since he returned to manage the club for the second time. He(Jose) praised the efforts of his players saying their first half performance was the best start to the Premier league by any Chelsea team he has ever managed. He admitted the tempo was slow in the second half due to the busy schedule of the players just before the start of the premier league
Frank Lampard had his penalty saved by Hull City goalkeeper Allan Mcgregor before Oscar slotted home from Kevin De bruyne's pass to give Chelsea the lead.
Chelsea's Fernando Torres was fouled by James Chester and the free kick that resulted from that saw Frank Lampard score the second goal in a superb style.
HULL city pressed harder in the second half especially when Tom Huddlestone and Jake Livermore were introduced into the game. They had a clear chance which was conveniently saved by Chelsea goalkeeper,Petr Cech.
The Blues slow tempo in the second half prompted manager Jose Mourinho to introduce Andre Schurrle,Romelo Lukaku and Van Ginkel but the scoreline remained the same(2-0) in the end.
Both teams will be hoping to improve in their next games but Chelsea can take consolation in the fact that they won their first game of the season and kept a clean sheet.
